Send GMail IMAP to Gmail>Trash in order to Archive

Asked by Scott Wegner

I have my GMail email account configured for IMAP thorugh Evolution, and have been relatively happy. There is one feature that still bugs me though. When I press "delete" on a message, it goes to a local trash folder which is created for the account, rather than the IMAP trash folder from Google.

This is a problem because GMail IMAP is configured such that mail moved from the Inbox to the Trash folder will actually "archive" the message on the web interface. The only way to do this through Evolution is to drag the message from the Inbox into the IMAP "Trash" folder.

Is there any way to specify which folder "deleted" trash should be sent to? I can't find the option anywhere.

Thanks for the response nhasian. Unfortunately I'm not quite sure what you're getting at on that page. The page seems to imply that mail *shouldn't* be dragged into the IMAP Trash folder, but simply "deleted" from the inbox to remove the Inbox label. I can confirm that deleting an email from the Inbox in Evolution *doesn't* remove it from the Inbox on the web interface. So, I am still stuck in the same situation where it's unclear how to Archive a message via Evolution.

Ok, I think I finally found the problem for me: the local "Trash" folder wasn't being "emptied" automatically. And when I would leave Evolution open for days at a time, it would seem like the deleted messages would never sync with the folder. The solution for me was to manually empty the trash, and then the messages get properly archived.
