Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs .

I recommend to use Thunderbird instead of Evolution. Evolution makes a lot of problems - this launchpad is full of them.

You can find Thunderbird in the Synaptic manager or open a Terminal and type:
sudo apt-get install thunderbird

Hope it helps.

Thunderbird seems lots better. We often have questions about evolution but never about thunderbird

peter and Tom: Your biased opinions are not only uninformed but also contribute nothing to solving the problem.

Darin: To specify the required port, add a colon and the port number to the end of the mailserver address so that the address looks like this: mail.ex1.secureserver.net:25 for example.

I had the exact same problem. Godaddy's directions are wrong. For SMTP use TLS with Login authentication. This should fix it.

Environment : Fedora 11 Preview/Evolution 2.26.1

Mike you're giving some great answers but in this case it's to a very old question that i think a few of us were embarrassed about and had hoped would quietly slip away lol
Try resorting your Questions page by "most recent first" and don't worry, we all did stuff like this when we started. It's great to have you on-board :)
Thanks and regards from
Tom :)

Thanks for the advice on using the Internets Tom (note: there was sarcasm in that remark)... you'll notice that I actually answered their question about how to use Evolution as opposed to punting and telling them to use another program.

Hi :)
Please can you ask a new question?
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+addquestion

Just editing the subject-line or the original question doesn't make this into a new thread so no-one gets to see it "at the front desk". There is only 3 of us that see this thread and 2 of us don't know the answer and neither of us know if Mike is still around!
Apols and regards from
Tom :)
