Archiving older mail

Asked by zandman

Made a big step in moving from MS to Linux this week: now using Evolution as mail-program.
Coming from Outlook 2003 i have the following problem: while i was importing the various files one by one for my 25 or so folders with mail i noticed that Evolution was getting slower and slower. Probably has to do with database-size. My mail archives go back to January 2005. If i look at the properties of the /home/<user>/.evolution/mail folder it's 110 MB.
I know that Outlook has an issue with large mailboxes (the .pst-file) so there i had an auto-archiving rule that would move all to archive if older then 2 months.
I have been searching through the help-files and available documentation but nowhere i found something describing a similar process for Evolution.
Questions:
1. Does Evolution have a problem with large mailboxes?
2. Is there an archiving option available in Evolution?

Thanks in advance for the help,

Jaap

I hope somebody proves me wrong, but as far as I know there is no automatic archiving facility in Evolution.
As Evolution uses (a kind of) mbox perhaps you could use the Menu->Folder->Move folder to... or ->Copy folder to ... options?

Are developers going to realize this function to archive mail by date or by mailbox's size?
I lost my mailbox with mailing list when it was size 2.1GB:(( Evolution simply couldn't open it..
I think it's very important feature to use Evolution as permanent mail-client.
OS: Ubuntu 7.10
Evolution 2.12.1

This thread is really old, so is the situation still the same?
At what size will Evolution now crash?
Is "Menu->Folder->Move folder to.. [Archive location]" still the best advice for archiving?
I shall try that in a mo, but I wonder how searchable/readable the emails will be from the archive folder.

Can you help with this problem?
