can't send mails

I'm using Evolution and I can receive every mails but I can't send any mails.
In Properties - Sending Email for my account, I set SMTP (server type), smtp.tiscali.it (server), "Server requires authentication" (checked), no encryption (use secure connection), PLAIN (authentication).
I tried setting smtp.tiscali.it:578 but nothing changed.

Can you help me?

Sergio may i suggest you to install and try Thunderbird... to manage your mail...

Sergio posso darti un consiglio spassionato installati Thunderbird che è meglio di Evolution è snello e semplice e potente...
Per installare Tunderbird cercalo e selezionalo da Applicazioni → Aggiungi Rimuovi

I get a time out error while waiting for the server...
I tried Thunderbird, and I get the same problem...
Maybe the problem is due to my ADSL network (Telecom Alice) that is not the same as my mail account (Tiscali)...Can I solve this problem?

Avevo già provato a installare Thunderbird (che è proprio meglio di Evolution...), ma il problema rimane.
Probabilmente il problema è dovuto al fatto che il server della mia casella di posta elettronica è Tiscali, mentre io ho un contratto con ADSL con Alice...se così, non si può fare niente?

Ah....

Many ISPs block the use of port 25 and will only allow you to use their servers (it's supposed to prevent spam, but it doesn't seem to be working from where I'm sitting).

What happens if you setup Evolution (or Thunderbird) to use the Telecom Alice smtp server?
