have you tried thunderbird? can you give some more info of the ubuntu version you're using(6.10, 7.04 or so) and more details on your configuration, e-mail provider, and some error or something you know it's going bad on it?

I don't see how thunderbird would help.

Make sure the e-mail settings are set up properly in Evolution.
