mail wont connect to bt server

Hi
   I cannot seem to get evolution to connect to the BT server, I get the message the host failed or its not recognized.
 pop server and smpt server are both mail.btinternet.com It also requirers a password but has never asked for it.
Can anybody shed some light, or may be Im just thick.
