Uninstall Evolution and Pilot

Asked by TK (yahoo)

Hi I just started trying out using ubuntu for the past fortnight and been excited about it. Was stumped about the analog screen resolution with my nVidia Geforce 4, but manage to solve it with the help of this forum, so I thought of trying to ask about this.

I was trying to uninstall palm pilot and evolution from the synaptic package manager and someone screwed things up and had to reinstall ubuntu all over again. I don't know if this is too much to ask, but was wondering if anyone had a check list of the items to uninstall, as I am very confused by the synaptic package manager. I am unable to remove these 2 from the regular add/remove programs.

Thank you!

You should be able to remove both using 'sudo apt-get remove evolution gnome-pilot'

The packages gnome-pilot-conduits, evolution-exchange and evolution-plugins will also be removed automatically.

Thank you justin, That worked perfectly and was much less confusing for me than the Synaptics package manager. Thank you!

Using synaptics is very risky to remove evolution - apparently it removes other critical files so we loose the desktop and have to do a complete reinstall. Another post mentioned a recovery option from the ubuntu cd - I didnt see any based on the iso download.

If you are removing evolution be very careful.

Synaptics should CLEARLY indicate what files are part of the os or desktop and not safe to remove.
