evolution unable to connect to pop server to receive mail

Asked by George Atkinson

Binary package hint: evolution

I am using Ubuntu 8.04 and trying to receive mail on Evolution 2.22.3.1
When I click send receive it asks me for my password, which I enter but then it gives me the following message.

evolution - unable to connect to pop server pop.telus.net. Error sending password: -ERR invalid username or password

I have rechecked both my password and my username several times to make sure they are correct and I have double checked that I have setup the accounts correctly. I have set up a gmail account that works on evolution using the same password. There is no problem with outgoing mail on the telus smtp server.

that's an user question and not a bug, there is likely some authentification method required to use the server

Which password are you entering when sending mail? If you have configured Evolution so that your server requires authentication, then the password that is needed is your server password and not your login password.

Is the outgoing address "smtp.telus.net" or "pop.telus.net".

Generally, server mail addresses are "mail.servername.net". I am aware that telus does it differently since have seen this problem with telus before.

Thanks for the inquiry Andre I have solved the problem. Your analysis is
correct the server password was different than login password. I have
both Evolution and Thunderbird running smoothly. Thanks.
