Evolution vs Exchange 2007

Hi Paolo,

From what I understand there is no way of getting evolution working with exchange 2007 at the moment. I had to resort to using IMAP.

If you have in-depth knowledge of linux, I believe that there is a plugin for called evolution brutus which uses a networked windows PC as a proxy (using the outlook dll files on that PC) - but this would be extremely difficult to set up - I attempted and failed miserably.

Have you already installed the evolution-exchange package...?

To be sure this deb package is installed on your system.

Please open a Terminal from the menu Applications->Accessories->Terminal and type:

sudo apt-get clean all
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install evolution-exchange

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

@Paolo: Matt is correct. Exchange 2007 does not work with Evolution right now. Work is currently in progress, but it has not yet reached a stage stable enough to be packaged. When available, it will probably be an option in the evolution-exchange package.

Your only chance right now is with IMAP -- but Exchange must be configured for IMAP; additionally, this would usually require a VPN if you are on a (say) laptop outside the premises.

My company has exchange 2007 up and running, i can connect to outlook web access via firefox, but if i configure the evolution to connect via IMAP, it fails all the time. can you assist?

@carlo: Evo connects to Exchange by parsing OWA layout. Since OWA in Exchange 2007 has changed graphical layout, you will not be able to connect to Exchange2007 with current plugin. You have to wait for newer Evo/plugin. BTW, it was written explicitly above in this thread.

I was in the gnome leyando evolution in the next release will leave with official support for Exchange 2007

Who knows if this date will update ubuntu evolution in the official repositories?

For the record, Evolution-mapi has been released on Jaunty and Karmic.

This is still a work-in-progress, so caveat emptor.
