pop error messages

Asked by anthony burman

when i try to retrieve evolution email, two messages constantly pop up. 1) Error while fetching mail.Failed to read a valid greeting from pop server pop.gmail.com. 2) Unable to connect to pop server pop.gmail.com. Error sending username: unknown error. Please enter the pop password for <email address hidden> on host pop.gmail .com.
when i click the messages away i can click on send/receive. if i have email it then downloads and the inbox will show that i have mail.
what do the pop messages mean and how can i get rid of them? do i always have to press send/receive to check if i have mail? my service provider does not support ubuntu but they are not blocking my account.
i hope you can help. i hope i'll know where to look to find an answer!
thanks, ant.

No, there is not phone support available with community Ubuntu. Another link that can help is http://www.go-evolution.org/FAQ#How_can_I_access_my_GMail_POP_account.3F.

I upgraded to ubuntu 8.10 a week back.
I'm still on POP.

The problem is solved!
mail is on auto with No More threatening messages.

With thanks,
Anthony.
