How to create an exchange server account

Asked by Sketch1946

can you tell me the steps you took to set up an exchange server account online?

I've downloaded all my email messages from my website,
(and chosen the option to leave messages on the server temporarily for safety).

I've also used the backup option from evolution to make an archive file on my local computer.

I get stuck at the point of setting up an evolution exchange server account - specifically at the dialog where the OWA text input box is asking for an account....

Is it possible to have an exchange account without using outlook?

I wantto synchronise email between my windoze machines and Ubuntu and mobile phone if possible.

OWA refers to the Outlook Web Access provided by your exchange server. Are you trying to use Evolution with an exchange server you have in place?
If you want to keep email sync'd everywhere I'd suggest setting all your devices to use IMAP, so that the server retains a copy, and email gets to all devices.

Sorry about the delay.... (Had to sleep, go to work etc...)

I asked if it was possible to use evolution exchange server without using outlook ... I want to use evolution, my mobile and hopefully an account with an open source style group server... my problem is complete lack of experience in this technology... I am experienced with computers generally but have only just installed ubuntu 8 (2 weeks or so)

At my website I can choose egroupware whatever that is... but I was told that there was this thing called 'synching' where you can use the mobile or different computers ie home and work to co-ordinate email.

I have a website and administrator access, some small experience in php etc... I especially like the idea of using the phone and contact and calendar as well as email.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your help, I investigated IMAP and found enough to scare me away from the whole idea just for now... I'll leave my mail on the website, and tell my client programs to leave it there too, then do a download and backup with evolution,
then a monthly cleanup of stuff using webmail
to delete anything that doesn't have to stay online,
the synchronisation idea seems to be too full of problems from what I've googled.
