having problems again sending e-mails

I experience difficulty sending mail from my SMTP server. This problem only started after the last update. Evolution times out when sending mail and the error msg states that the smtp.iafrica.com can't be contacted. I have already discussed this with my IP provider iafrica.com and they then suggested two other smtp servers but the same result. I also utilise a broadband connection iburst. I have also loaded Ubuntu 8.04.

I would appreciate any assistance.

Have you made sure the server settings regarding authentication and such are correct for the particular SMTP server?

I have tried with authentication on or off but still same result.

A thought has just occurred to me, perhaps I must close Evolution and restart after every change. Let me try and I'll let you know.

I have tried and it did not work. I then tried other combinations.

1. Change server type to Sendmail. Closed Evolution. Start Evolution and change preferences to :-

   a) SMTP - for server type.
   b) Under Server configuration I changed the Server to one of the new servers I got from my IP and clicked on authentication.
   c) I restarted Evolution.

I don't know which of the events did the trick but I can now send e-mail again.
