IMAP very slow in Evolution for Edgy

Asked by David Kaplan

I am running edgy eft and trying to use evolution-2.8.1 to check an IMAP email account, but have run into problems with an unknown latency. At times, it takes forever for evolution to store the inbox or retrieve a selected message. I thought initially that it was a problem with my mail server, but checking the same IMAP account using evolution on Dapper Drake from another computer is much quicker.

I am not sure exactly how to approach diagnosing the problem. Generally, it does eventually work, though there are timeouts sometimes. So there is no obvious error to send. Perhaps someone can explain how to find out what evolution is doing while it is hanging. Thanks!

You can check the Receiving Options tab in the account preferences, if you have accidentally setup some strange options.
You could also try to connect via telnet to the server (on the same pc) to test the login prompt speed, try this on a terminal:

telnet <imap-host> 143

It's been quite slow for me from edgy on to karmic...

What was the action that resolved this request?
