I'm not sure if there's any easy (recommended) automated way of doing this. Personally I would do it manually however this may not be feasible for you if you have a large number of contacts. If you're feeling adventurous there is a perl script that is supposed to do the job.

If you try this I strongly suggest you make a _BACKUP_ before you attempt to use the script.

There is an easier way. Just drag all of your contacts into a new address book. As they are copied, duplicates will be reported. It works pretty well. Once the dups are deleted/merged copy the contacts back to the original address book.

The technique explained mlissner works but if there a lot of duplicates it means a lot of work... Should there be a merge all button ?

Yeah, it's no silver bullet.

Can you help with this problem?
