Binary package hint: evolution

I have a good internet connection - firewire - and Firefox is working just fine, but I cannot get either Evolution or Kmail to work. The form comes up but nothing happens when I hit the button to download mail. I am using both theCD which comes with Ubuntu Bible 8.o4 and the CD which comes with Ubuntu Unleashed 7.10. I am not a newbie but I have tried everything I can think of and would appreciate any help you can give. DB

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at [WWW] if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see [WWW] .

OK - who is your mail account held with? You need to supply your mail client with the info required to log into your mailserver and retrieve messages.

Who is your mail with? If with your ISP - please could you tell me who they are? If you explain that you want to set up your mail client manually - they should supply the required info.

You'll need..

SMTP server (for outbound mail); port number (in case they don't accept mail on port 25
Inbound mail server address; inbound mail port number; protocol (POP3/IMAP4 etc)
Inbound mail userid and password
If required - Outbound mail ID and password.

If you're using Evolution, you then need to go into Edit/Preferences, and create a new Mail Account with all this information.

Hope this helps.
