Evolution not collecting from GMail

Asked by Ampers on 2008-05-19

I have Evolution set up to collect mail from my GMail account via IMAP.

This has been working satisfactorily for months. Now it ceases to collect email.

I can still send email through Evolution via SMTP to my GMail account.

I have used Synaptic to reload all the dozens of Evolution files.

Naturally this is not "life-threatening" as I can always access my email via Firefox but a solution needs to be found. Can anyone help me? I notice the last person who had a problem did not receive any help so I would gather this is a recent problem?

I should mention that after I fire up Ubuntu and log in, and enter my password, I get the following error message:

Users $Home.dmrc file is being ignored. This
prevents the default session and language from
being saved. File should be owned by user and have
644 permissions. Users $Home directory must be
owned by user and not writable by other users.

Not understanding a word of this I have just been hitting the enter key and using Ubuntu. No other user has access to my home file.

Reference the additional information I gave. This problem has been sorted and I no longer get the logging in error message.

So that has not been my problem and Evolution still does not work. SO THIS PROBLEM REMAINS OPEN.

Do you get any error messages from Evolution?

I didn't get any error messages, the program just hung each time.

As I have my account with Google, and use IMAP I decided, this afternoon, to delete the log-on file for GMail and start afresh. It would have been very time-consuming if I had been using pop3 though!

But thanks for trying to help.

I am having the same problem. I see that this is marked as solved, does that mean that by deleting the log-on file for GMail you got it working again? If so where can I find that file? Thanks!

Is there a detail set up procedures I could follow to set-up evolution package so I could be able to send and receive emails via Google Imap. Please advise if anyone know how to do it. Thanks.
