Evolution with btinternet mail

Asked by Donald

How do I setup (configure, sorry) Evolution to get my mail.btinternet.com e-mails
I'm using server type POP for receipt although I see it is POP4 or something like that but it is the authentification I'm not sure about!
What should tick and select on the sending pop-up window.
Cheers Donald

Hi Donald,

yeah - POP, or more correctly POP3, is what you want.

I think this old support ticket will be off help:
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+ticket/77

They guy used BTOpenworld IIRC, so I think BTInternet will be the same.

Cheers,
Dave

I spent ages looking for an answer as to how to get Evolution to collect SMTP mail from BTinternet. None of the answers under this thread now work.

The following, however, does as of April 2009 now that BT have tightened their security:

1. Do not use the old addresses for POP and SMTP
2. For POP use this address:- plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com
3. Enter your full BT address - <email address hidden>
4. Under security put no encryption
5. Tick remember password
6. For SMTP use this address:- plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com:587 [the purpose of the 587 is to allow Evolution to use that Port which cannot be set in any other way. If you do not use 587 you will probably be restricted to only using BT as your ISP for a connection]
7. Under security put no encryption
8. Under Authentication use Plan
9. Put in your full user name again
10. Tick the remember password

When you run a Send/Receive the first time you will probably be asked for the password for the SMTP and the POP. Enter both and make sure you tick remember them.

Hopefully that will help people. Certainly it has greater potential to than people who simply suggest using another email client or changing mail provider.

Can you help with this problem?
