Error receiving message from server

I Just used the Evolution Setup Wizard to set up email account for the first time. Outgoing mail works fine. I sent myself a test message. Evolution now shows one message waiting but not displayed. Send/Receive produces a message:
"Unable to connect to POP server pop3.mail.
"Please enter the password for bobed on pop3.mail.
The wizard said nothing about a password and nothing I enter is acceptable. The error message just repeats. I assume I have entered something wrong during setup, but what?
