Recurring tasks

Asked by Ampers

I like this program, certainly better than Thunderbird seems to be at the moment.

One thing which would help keep the calendar cleaner, and that is to be able to add recurring tasks.

There are a lot of items in everyday life where, rather than an appointment, a task has to be carried out every month, quarter, or even year. To be able to set this up in a calendat where the actual date is not as important than a few days leading up to a date for the chore would be most useful.

Such as quarterly staff appraisals, or prepare for the annual Christmas party on the second Saturday of December.

Hello

unfortunately, Evolution does not support recurring tasks yet.. so.. don't wait on that mate..

One way is:

cron of course.

Basically, you need to write a little script and put it in /etc/cron.hourly, /etc/cron.daily, weekly, monthly, yearly whatever...

You can also run a script at whatever time and date you please using crontab.

...and yes, you need to Google and read up on cron a bit, but it isn't hardcore electromagnetics in EE... ;)

Cheers,

Bhavani Shankar.

I run a little survey between my office colleagues, and over 90% agreed that recurring tasks happen to them way oftener then recurring appointments/events.

The job done by Evolution team is quite remarkable. But in this specific case, what a strange choice of preference was made to support recurrence opposite way.

I love your suite but missing task recurrence badly. As many others I think. Any time I have an Evolution update coming from Ubuntu repositories I look if this was finally added.

I have a very simple requirement: I need to add a recurring appointment evey 10th of a month. How do I do that?

Evolution only lets me specify the start date & "every 31 days forever" kind of a setting, but that doesn't always give me the "10th"!.

I have been using evolution ever since I switched to ubuntu, and really like it; It's mature, stable and fast; The non-availability of such an obvious simple functionality really surprises me.. ;(

@Bhavani: "Basically, you need to write a little script.." -> you must be kidding me.. we're talking about common tasks for day-to-day use by *average* people.

I really hope the evolution team will add these features soon.. ;)
