Evolution doesn't display graphics, only text, for some incoming mails

Asked by RayArdia

Evolution seems to work fine, and I much prefer it to the Outlooks, Expresses etc! However, when I receive certain emails, usually the ones offering a display of goods etc., the text appears but only outlines of graphics with a black block in top LH corner.

Hello,

This is a security feature blocking external content from servers. Indeed, if fetching content from outside the email, it imply connecting and sending requests to (usualy untrusted webservers). This would inform and leave traces on possible spammer server every time you read or simply display en email.

I guess you can disable that feature in preferences but you realy should not, unless you don't care recieving spam with it beying automatically signaled to the spammer that his spam reached you with a valid email address and you displayed it.

Regards,

Thank you Léa, however I don't think this is the answer because the two most recent senders have been reliable and known-to-me companies. I don't currently have them in my recompiled Evolution address book. Could that be the reason? Will try adding them and see......

hello, could you check your settings in evolution,
under Edit--->Preferences--->Mail Preferences(Side Bar)--->HTML Mail(Tab)--->Plain Text mode
you should check to make sure its not set as Plain Text Only

Checked this, the Plain Text box showed "Show HTML if present - so that wasn't the problem.... BUT the box above was set to "Load images from contacts"!
I reset this box to "Always load images from the Internet" and all is well.
Many thanks to Brian.
