How to install a software from the download

Asked by Anbu

Hi
I'm new to Ubuntu - downloaded the linux version of a financial software I use it on Windows. How do I install it on IUbuntu. The zip file contains the .jar file which i can launch from the terminal using this command java -jar financemanger.jar
But this only opens the program - I'd like to install this on my computer. How do I do that?

Stating the file extension tells us nothing. How do you install a zip file in Windows? It's nonsense.

Do you have a link to the application website so we can study.

Thanks

Here is the link
http://www.homemoneymanager.com/downloadccdlite_linux.php

As I mentioned if I run the homemoneymanager.jar file using java command it runs. But is there a way to install this package?

Have you read the "Linux Quick-Start Instructions" on http://www.homemoneymanager.com/downloadccdlite_linux.php ?

To install, extract the zip file to create the "Home Credit Card Manager Lite" folder.

What do you need more?

You can create a launcher file yourself.
See e.g. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UnityLaunchersAndDesktopFiles
