Ubuntu 6.06 has been EOL (End Of Life) from 2009. Do not expect support - updates - etc.

You must install a newer supported version of Ubuntu. Check the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS . Could be found here:
http://releases.ubuntu.com/precise/

Download - burn the image to a DVD or USB - and install from scratch.
