Asked by Timo Kangas

I had to create new account to myself. How can I transfer Evolution's local email folders to the new account?

I believe it is in ~/.config somewhere

Thanx, I found the files but didn't succeeded to recover. 1st I copied the .config/evolution/mail/folders to the new account and I tried to use the import option in evolution. Import didn't recognise these files.

You might have better success with an evolution backup old account/restore to new account (or import may work on the backup file too).

In old account the xwindows is not working. I have access only to the fs.

evolution puts its files all over the place. Look in .gconf, .local, .config, and .cache (note the dots on all of them). Move any directory named "evolution" and all its contents to the equivalent place on the new system. Easier, just point the new account's home to the old place, do the backup. switch to new home and restore. You might get by with just using the old account home if you are not switching OS/desktop versions -- only works well if things don't change too much.

Moving forward. I got the folder-structure back but not the stored emails. Could be a question of owner (chown)

I had to do sudo chown -R user:group .* in .local/share/evolution/mail/local. Problem solved. Thanx!
