No support for requested authentication mechanism

All was well in Evolution and Ubuntu 11.10. But since upgrading to 12.4 I find that I cannot receive messages from my ISP's POP server. I get the message "Error while fetching mail. Unable to connect to POP server xxxx: No support for requested authentication mechanism." This is in spite of all settings being the same as before. The settings are fairly standard; POP server, Port 110, Security: Use Secure Connection, No encryption, Authentication Type; Use Password. remember Password ticked.

Anything I've missed? thanks

It appears I've missed nothing. I went out of Evolution and came back to it half an hour or so later. All was well. It picked up all my waiting messages! And I thought this kind of behaviour was limited to Windoze!
