evolution disappears spontaniously

Asked by Bram van Leeuwen

Yesterday, 2 april 2012 I downloaded and installed the latest updates from ubuntu (11.10). When I click on the message symbol (enveloppe) and choose Evolution it opens and starts to generate new mail. As soon as that is done it disappears from the screen and returns to desktop! Phenomenon remains even after several restarts of Ubuntu.
I found a workaround by chosing Adressbook instead and from that screen Post and then it stays on screen and lets me work in it. Still, this is abnormal behaviour!
Is there anybody who can explain this; better: correct this?
Bram

please put the question on hold for the moment. I suspect that the problem could reside in the keybord of the PC at home. Problem arises when I use the Enter key and not by double clicking the mouse.
I will check this first and then return to you.

thanks anyhow, Bram

On return, the Enter key was not the solution.

Now, I startedd evolution through the terminal; it did not misbehave, but I repeat the text on terminal:

** (evolution:2731): CRITICAL **: categories_icon_theme_hack: assertion `filename != NULL && *filename != '\0'' failed

(evolution:2731): camel-CRITICAL **: camel_session_add_service: assertion `uri_string != NULL' failed
