Evolution does not fully start and freezes with message trying to resolve imap.gmail.com

I am using Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit on a 64-bit, 16Gb RAM PC and all fully up to date

My Evolution stopped loading fully. It starts to load, but then stops what looks like it is fully open, but it then seems to freeze. The window goes blank after a time and then some time later I get a warning message saying the app is busy and not responding - do I want to shut it down.

I noticed that in the status bar at the bottom of the window, instead of saying "retrieving", Updating", "Downloading" etc," it says trying to Resolve imap.gmail.com"

If I boot up with the Ethernet disconnected then it loads up as normal, but then fails when I connect.

Any ideeas/help, please?

Just before I past my results, so it does not get caught up in the text. I managed to get it kick started, though calendars and contacts still do not work, by turning off my ethernet connection and then restarting so Evolution is off-line when it starts. I then give it some time before going on line. Not ideal and it still does not work fully.
