Evolution has disapeard from Ubuntu 11.10

Asked by Warren Hill

I have been using Ubuntu for some years now but I can no longer access my email as evolution has disappeared from my system. Its still in the menu but wont run.

I am using 'gnome-session-fallback' but I doubt that is relevant to the situation

If I try and run from a terminal I get the following

warren@wmh-lt:~$ evolution
The program 'evolution' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
sudo apt-get install evolution

When I try to re-install I get this

warren@wmh-lt:~$ sudo apt-get install evolution

Problem solved

No Idea why this happed but

sudo apt-get install evolution-common

sudo apt-get install evolution

fixed the issue. I got a message that the mail format had changed and I had to migrate. Clicked "Migrate Now" and all appears to be fixed.

The same thing just happened to me, and the same fix worked. I tried to send an email while upgrading, I guess that must have messed things up (the mail was finally sent the first time I opened Evolution again).
