Just upgraded to 11.10, Evolution tries but fails to start

Asked by Mike Marsters

Upgraded to 11.10. Evolution Mail shows in the list of programs installed but tries to start and fails after a few seconds. I checked to see if there was some update and it shows; your system is up to date but says there are two distribution updates: one for "architecture independent files for Evolution and Standard plugins for Evolution. Which it won't allow me to download. I just want to use the Evolution program as before. Help

This worked for me:

sudo apt-get install evolution-common

then after that finishes

sudo apt-get install evolution

Seems as if it got confused about the evolution-common package - but an
install fixes the issue
