could not connect to smtp.aol.com; why not?

I could not connect to smtp.aol.com using Evolution program. Don't understand set up of Evolution

If you haven't set your e-mail account up yet (in evolution) then you are taken through a wizard to set it up if you have but possibly wrongly the details can be found by selecting Preferences from the edit menu

For AOL the settings should be as follows:

Incoming Mail:
  Server Type: IMAP
  Server: imap.aol.com
  User Name: Your AOL screen name
  No Encryption, Autentification Type : Password (You will be asked for your password first time you connect)

Outgoing Mail
  Server Type: SMTP
  Server: smtp.aol.com:587

Check these are set correctly and all should work. If not reply with the error message you get and we can investigate further
