Deleted e-mails

Using Evolution for e-mail.

I am a new user of Ubuntu. I am very confident with Windows use and I use Windows Live Mail 2011 for checking my e-mails. Two days ago, I installed Ubuntu on my laptop and started using Evolution for checking my mails. Today I checked my e-mails from Windows Live Mail and I found out that all my mails in Inbox Folder have vanished! I also visited Hotmail website and the Inbox folder was empty there too! Is there a possible way to restore the e-mails from Evolution to Hotmail? I sense it has something to do with POP3.

(1) POP3 downloads all new emails locally to your computer. Just as you suspected.
(2) Your Email provider is (or should be) better at backups than you are. So, in general IMAP is a better solution.
(3) Hotmail does offer IMAP.
