How to change from Evolution Mail to Thunderbird and import the email folders

After having used Evolution Mail and Calender in Ubuntu for about a year, I would like to switch to Mozilla Thunderbird Mail.
Is it possible to export the mail messages, structured in folders, from Evolution to Thunderbird? If so, how can this be accomplished?
