how do I import my Evolution email files from the older version of Ubuntu?

Asked by Lucy Ijams

A friend did an installation of Lucid Lynx. I am a novice at Ubuntu/Linux. The Jaunty 9.04 I was using is on a jump drive or may even be on my computer somewhere. How do I find the Evolution data and configuration and all the files and import them into Lucid Lynx? No clue where to look.

Did you do an install or an upgrade? If you did an install then you won't be able to import the files unless you exported/saved them on another machine.

Paul, Thanks for your reply. Installed. The old version is in a partition on the HD but I don't know how to access it. If everything in my home folder was saved to a jump drive, would my Evolution data be there too?

Solved by an answer found in a search engine. Saved each folder of e-mails by selecting all, saved with a filename.mbx to a new folder I created called Evolution Email on my Jaunty desktop. With address book, saved addresses as vCards, saved those in the same folder. Archived these in case they were too big to move. Then one at a time, I imported each file into the Lucid Lynx Evolution folders.
