as of 3 days ago can't send emails via my gmail account

Both sending and receiving via google mail was fine until 3 days ago. Suddenly the message comes up that mail can't be sent via gmail, but I'm receiving no problem.
I am a complete nit-wit at understanding any computer jargon, please be kind to me and keep any advice ultra-simple. Thanks!!
