New Software Versions

Asked by Robert Piccinelli

I am running version 2.30.3 of Evolution which crashes frequently. The bug has been fixed, I think, in 2.30.3-1. To install this version I need to remove the old version. Will removing the old version also remove all my contacts, saved, messages, etc? If so, where can I find these files so I can back them up?

No, it should not. But if you want to be on the safe side, open nautilus (the file manager) enable "show hidden files" from the view menu, then *copy* the .evolution folder to somewhere safe, or just compress the whole folder into an archive.

You should also be backing up regularly anyway....

Also, 2.30.3 is the upstream evolution release -- the FIRST version in ubuntu will be tagged with a "-1", the bit after the dash is the ubuntu package version. So 2.30.3-1 would not be an update from 2.30.3.

Thank you for the information. I know I should be doing the backup. Just haven't figured it all out using Linux yet.
