can't transfer my emails form evolution on old laptop to evolution on new laptop

Asked by philwalker

I have ubuntu 11.04 installed on a dell latitude E6400 (32 bit I think) and am trying to transfer my emails from evolution on that laptop to ubuntu 11.04 on an asus ul30a (64 bit), using back up and restore. The backup seems to work OK on the old laptop, but when I try to restore on the new laptop it says 'invalid backup file'. Is this because the old ubuntut is 32 bit and the new ubuntu is 64 bit? If so, is there any workaround for this?

Hi Phil,

I'm not sure you can do that. You may be able to, but I had the same issue, and the way I got around it was to save the emails on a usb stick and the loaded them on the 64 bit once I had loaded it.

If you don't have too many emails you could send them back up to the server, change os and then download them again on the new os.

hope that helps.

Paul
