Can't move or delete mails in Evolution 10.10

When I move a mail from my inbox into a folder the mail drops into the folder but also remains behind in the inbox with a line drawn through it. I can then only either undelete the mail from the general inbox or expunge it. When I delete a mail by clicking on delete, whether from the general inbox or a folder or from sent items, a straight line is drawn/scratched through the email but it will not delete. I can then only either undelete or expunge the mail. I used to be able to click on delete, the mail would transfer into deleted items and from there at any point I could either undelete or clear all deleted items. How can I fix my problem?

What's your email provider (Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo...) ?

Gmail. It says, Default Pop.

Configure your mail account like this:

server type: imap
server address: imap.gmail.com
security: ssl encryption

server type: smtp
sever address: smtp.gmail.com
security: ssl encryption
type: plain

I have used POP since 2009. This is the first time I've had a glitch and am not sure why a switch to IMAP would solve the problem. Surely everybody else on POP would have the same problem?
Incidentally, I was upgrade-reinstalled by a buddy to 11.04. There was a hope that the problem might miraculously go away but it hasn't :(

It worked until about three weeks ago. The upgrade-reinstall to 11.04 was done today.

I'm really sorry. If you go to Evolution>View>Show Deleted Messages, untick the latter. It was ticked, or I ticked it inadvertently, or I don't know but that was the cause of the problem.
