Evolution keeps asking for passwords.

Asked by clombard

I can not find my previous question or emails regarding this problem with Evolution mail.
You suggested I install 11.04 and see if the problem is the same. It is NOT the same with
Natty (11.04) it is actually worst!. I installed 11.04 from the link to install it alongside Windows.
The two O/S work well on a newer computer. As far as Evolution mail is concerned it does not
work well. On the Windows XP boot Outlook Express handles several mail accounts without a problem(ever).
From the beginning on the Ubuntu boot Evolution produced strange messages (like error synching IMAP
folders when offline) I am not offline!. However the most perplexing problem is the program's inability
to remember passwords. It is very annoying to have to enter a password for several accounts several
times before it works. This was the same problem with 10.10 evolution.
Is there something I can do to get this mail server to work...?
thanks.

In Ubuntu your passwords are stored in an application called Passwords and Encryption Keys (seahorse). If you have Evolution already set up with your account/s, then Evolution will automatically store given passwords here. Now the file created is encrypted and will ask for (guess what?) your password.

Tip: Don't set up auto log for the sole reason of bypassing the system asking you for a password. You can however set it up so the log in password AND the encryption file's password are the same. So you only have to give it once. That's how I set it up. Cheers.
