Issues sending hotmail mail in evolution

Asked by Byron Woodland

Hi Guys,

This is a very recent error while trying to use Evolution to send hotmail E-mail. It's worth noting I have been using Evolution to do this with no problems up until today and no settings have changed. When I use send/receive I receive any incoming mail fine but it hangs on the sending mail or an error message "STARTTSL command failed :Unkown" is given.

Server type SMTP
Server smtp.live.com
Server requires auth checked
TLS Encryption
Auth type Plain
Address <email address hidden>

I have tried changing TLS TO SSL, Auth type to login with no success.
Any help greatly appreciated.

This seems to be an intermittent problem as I rebooted system earlier to see if there was any change in behaviour, on trying to send the E-mail then it worked. Later on it had stopped working again so tried rebooting again, the E-mail would again send. Not sure what could be causing it to hang in this way as I have made no changes to system, the only difference seems to be a recent re-boot.

There is a PPA for 3.2 for maverick:
https://launchpad.net/~malept/+archive/evolution-bp

There is a warning here which may be of interest though:
https://launchpad.net/~kklimonda/+archive/evo232

HTH

Either way, log a bug as it's inconsistency is weird and should be addressed.

Can you help with this problem?
