Preview attachments to a new send email

Asked by Alan Wirth

When sending an email and adding an attachment it seems I am unable to preview pictures.
There is no option to preview anything except the file name.
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to configure Evolution to see at least a thumbnail of potential picture .jpg or similar attachments?

Thanks for your question.

It's a short answer: no. You might want to file a feature request on the bug tracker.

Thanks for your reply - I had spent a lot of time trying to find the answer - thinking there must be a way to do this. I guess the same answer applies to Mozilla's Thunderbird email client?
Is there an email client which allows the preview of attachments which is as good as Evolution in other ways?

Can't preview with thunderbird too (same dialog). Gnome developers seem to have refused to implement that on the widget level, so every application has to implement it's own preview: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=372344

Changing the desktop manager should help, for example i believe kde has a file chooser with image preview. There's even a hack to use kde file chooser with gtk applications: http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=36077.

An workaround is to have a file manager (nautilus) window open and drag&drop images on a mail in evolution.

Thanks for that - the workaround is a good idea.
I'm not too good technically so won't attempt any hacks.

I enjoyed reading the comments about previewing at:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=372344

Seems an obvious enhancement to me as a non-technical user and surely no-one wants to preview every kind of file. It's mainly numbered photo files that need the preview function.
The WONTFIX attitude seems rather short-sighted.
Thanks again.
