evolution crashes in regular intervals

Asked by vfmla

Hello fellow Ubuntu users,

it is not a huge annoyance now, I haven't lost any data or else, but evolution closes in very regular intervals, like every 10-15 minutes. is it possible to fix this somehow?

thank you for all your insights!

If you have not already tried this, update your system (System > Administration > Update Manager) and see if that fixes the problem.

If it doesn't, then I recommend you report the crash as a bug. This process will automatically suggest existing bug reports that might be the same as your crash, and which might contain information about workarounds. However, even if not, reporting the crash as a bug will help the developers to fix it, so that you can other Ubuntu users benefit.

If you choose to report this crash as a bug, it is important that you first read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs carefully. Then, enable Apport, using the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Apport/. Please feel free to post again if you need help with those instructions! Then, when the crash occurs, an Apport window (like https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Apport?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=apport-gtk-desktopfile.png, except about "Evolution" rather than "Devhelp") should come up, and you can follow the steps you read about at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs for reporting the bug.

If you want me (or others) to attempt to suggest possible causes and workarounds for your situation, then please provide more information about when the problem started occurring, what you tend to be doing in Evolution when it crashes, and anything that changed shortly before the crashes started occurring (unless you have always been experiencing them).

Correction: "...so that you can other Ubuntu users benefit." --> "...so that you and other Ubuntu users can benefit."

By the way, once you've reported the bug (or found an existing bug report that describes your problem), you can link to it here by using the "Link existing bug" link at the top of this page. That will also put a link to this question on the bug report page. However, your bug report should be self-contained; it should not require that the developers refer back to this question page for information.
