You can reinstall evolution through synaptic package manager (in System-->Administration).

Could you please open a terminal (Applications-->Accessories), type "evolution" into it and copy & paste here whatever it will output.

I tried to reinstall it (by check "reinstall" all evolution packages in synaptic) .

After it ,in the terminal, I got the following output:

CalDAV Eplugin starting up ...

(evolution-2.10:5930): evolution-mail-WARNING **: ignored this junk plugin: not enabled or we have already loaded one

(evolution-2.10:5930): e-utils-WARNING **: Plugin 'Bogofilter junk plugin' failed to load hook 'org.gnome.evolution.mail.junk:1.0'
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Still need help...

Have you installed newest, official feisty fawn 7.04?

You can also remove evolution together with configuration (mark for complete removal in synaptic; apply) and then install it back (mark for installation; apply).

Do you have spamassassin or bogofilter installed? Removing or exactly the opposite installing those might help. :)

One simple thing, try updating you system (synaptic: reload, mark all upgrades, apply), maybe there was some patch for that.

As far as I know I have an official version 7.04 - maybe I should check if Evolution is working on the livecd ?

The complete removal and install again didn't help.

I also didn't have bogodilter or spamassassin installed. I have installed them, but it didn't do any good.

I also tried to update the system... it didn't fix the problem.

The error message is the same message that I had before.

Checking if it's working when booted from live cd is a good idea. If it works then maybe something went wrong during the installation.

You could also check if other mail clients work or not. There a lot available (through add/remove or synaptic), most popular would be thunderbird or kmail.

Normal course of action would be probably to ask you to debug your evolution. The whole process is described here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash, but this is quite complex and would probably result in a bug report rather than an immediate solution. I don't think it's a great idea to put you through all of this on your second day of using ubuntu. :)

To check your ubuntu version you can type "lsb_release -a" in a terminal.

Hi again

The version seems to be OK:
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 7.04
Release: 7.04
Codename: feisty

Checking Live cd options:
I check that there are no defects on the live cd.
From the live cd I can activate Evolution - maybe I have installed package that is the cause for segmentation fault error.

I succeeded to install and activate Thunderbird without any problem.

After I boot my pc I've got more problems (maybe I had them before, I am not sure) -
busbox v1.1.3 (debian 1:1.1.3-3ubuntu3) built-in shell (ash)
/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control trun off

and sometime -

"[0.134015] pci device has unkown ...." and after I got the Ubuntu progress bar - the OS got stuck !

I succeeded to boot in safe mode (what is the different between MS and linux safe mode ? ) and send this ...

This errors can be caused by many things, usually some hardware incompatibility. Because of your evolution this is probably your network card. Could you describe your hardware, please?

This message is pci device <number> has unknown header, or it's something else? Maybe you can connect this message to one of your cards?

When the computer boot there is a short while when it shows "Loading GRUB". Press escape there. Select your boot option (probably the first one), and edit ('e'), choose the kernel line and edit again ('e').

Now there are some things we can try, but knowing your hardware could help find something specific. Anyway, first i would try removing quite & splash, so we can get more information.

Some tricks that work most often are adding all_generic_ide (for non working disks etc.), noacpi and acpi=off (for some older laptops)

The idea of the safe mode is generally the same in windows and ubuntu, but the boot process is different, so from the technical point of view it's something different.
