evolution for yahoo mail address

Asked by Andrew Marshall

I entered the respective permissions for my gmail account when setting up evolution. When clicking send/receive I get the following error messages:

1. Error while performing operation. Mail from command failed, must issue a STARTTLS command first b39sm867887rvf.

2. Could not connect to pop.gmail.com

These are the permissions I entered:

Receiving: pop.gmail.com

Sending: Server Type: SMTP
                 Server Configuration: SMTP.gmail.com

I would be grateful for any help and any possible guidance for hotmail settings. YAH

Sorry, somehow I was typing a response but for some reason the above 'Solved it' reply went instead.
I didn't enable my gmail account before but have now.

Could you just check that the following settings are correct in 'Receiving email configuration'

Server Type: Pop
Server: pop.gmail.com
Username: The first part, without the @gmail.com

Security: no encryption

Authentication Type: Login

I tried send/receive and get the following:
MAIL FROM command failed: Must issue a STARTTLS command first g6sm1041529rvb

Have I got the correct 'authentication type' correct and how do I notify it of my gmail password?

Thanks

I currently use Verizon in Windows, and when I struggled through the install of Ubuntu 7.04 I was told that no OS was recognized to migrate files from, so I've been trying to get the right info. into Evolution with absolutely no luck (and, by the way, if you send me an e-mail it will go to Windows and I can't respond to it). Perhaps I have a separate e-mail password that I don't have written down, but I get an error message telling me my request for mail from imcoming.verizon.net can't be completed because of Error Sending Username: ERR - invalid command. Also, before that is another message about failure to connect to SMPT. Ideally, I would like to keep e-mail working under both OSs - is that possible, or is the switch to Evolution permanent? Linux seems very difficult to me so far...

Sorry for the late reply but some brain box has cut the cables for half the country's internet connection.

As an ordinary computer user I am just baffled by all the jargon people use. I use free gmail and hotmail(emergency), but am not happy with hotmail so have opened a Yahoo account and will let hotmail fade. I've found it extremely difficult to try and configure gmail and yahoo to work with evolution using pop access and so have admitted defeat.

Sympathies....

Gmail is Basic
Evolution is standard and not removable from Ubuntu

Since both are so population they both should have no brainer solutions.

Its about the customer....
