Could not send message: broken pipe

Asked by Candace

I know this is not a smart question, but I tried to set up my evolution account several months ago, and I didn't know what to put in for the server type, etc. so I barged ahead and put whatever I thought (I don't remember now what I set it to), but of course it happened to be the wrong thing. I have never been able to receive messages, and when I try to send messages, I get the following message:

Error while perfoming operation.
Could not send message: broken pipe

I read the archives and I didn't find any similar questions to this, and I can't find any options in Evolution to reconfigure my initial settings. If you know where to find these settings, I would appreciate a tip.

Regarding reconfiguring the Evolution settings: I think the tutorial on http://products.secureserver.net/email/email_evolution.htm shows how to.

But in short: Look under menu Edit => Preferences => Mail Accounts.

(I am not using Evolution myself, so I could be wrong..)

Thank you, I followed those instructions, but when I click send/receive, I get a gui asking me for my SMTP password. The only thing I found online about this error is that it was a bug in evolution in 2003. I would assume it would be fixed by now. I cannot send or receive mail due to this.

I actually switched to Thunderbird and once I set my ingoing and outgoing servers properly and their respective ports, I was fine. Thanks for the help.
