Evolution crashing when attempting to disable an account

Asked by Roger Devine

Hi,

I've been using Evolution to pick up mail from several accounts, including a .mac account (IMAP) that has mercifully now expired. I'd like to disable that account in evolution, but retain the mail I received there that is in my Evolution inbox. I tried to disable the account in the Preferences box, by unchecking the box next to the account name. When I do, Evolution quits immediately -- no error message, nothing.

Is there some other way to disable an account? Can I edit a preferences file by hand? If so, where is it?

Roger

When you untick an IMAP account, what happens is it does not appear in the account tree.
It is strange if Evolution exits when you untick. Maybe you have set that IMAP account to be the default account in Evolution?

A quick workaround would be to copy the emails from the .mac account to a local folder, then use the local folder.
With IMAP, the e-mails are stored on the server, therefore there is chance that you do not have a full local copy of the e-mails. In that case, there is little you can do (unless you enable for a bit and get the full copy).

Thanks for the reply. This account had previously been the default account, but I changed the default to another account early in my troubleshooting. The problem persisted.

I copied over the emails I could to a local folder, and I'm going to live without the others and delete the account.
