Evolution won't sent mail through Hotmail

Asked by willie j paul

I can't send mail using my Hotmail account with Evolution, moreover I keep on losing mail as it is transferred into the trash bin. As you can see the Hotmail boffins suggested I contact you Evolution Boffins to sort the issue and I quote:

"Based on our records, you’re accessing your account through an e-mail client using the POP3 settings. If you didn’t enable the option to leave a copy of your Inbox messages, it’s only normal that they’ll be moved to the Deleted folder once you’ve downloaded them into the e-mail client. You should contact the support team of the e-mail you’re using to help you enable the option.

For your sending issue, I suggest that you refresh your browser. You can visit its Help section for the steps or contact their support team for assistance."

Can you help please?

Thank you

Hello,

You are using Evolution Mail so sending and receiving has to be set up with the smtp and pop settings. This is found under Account settings.

You can get all the Hotmail pop3 settings by Googling Hotmail Pop.

Allan :)

Thank you for your reply, I suppose I wasn't clear in my question as I
have been using Evolution on my hotmail acocount for over a year without
having any difficulties. Last month Hotmail for no apparent reason
trashed my inbox and any mail sent to me was trashed immediately - not
very nice, then I stopped being able to send. Now I can receive mail and it
does appear to stay in the inbox but I can't send anything with evolution and have to
go into Hotmail to send - not very comfortable. Could it be that I need
to update Evolution or reinstall it? I haven't changed or touched my POP
and SMTP settings.
I'm stuck.
Thanks for your help

Hello,

Try an update and check the smtp settings which could have changed by themselves. I had some problems with Evolution and switched to Mozilla Thunderbird news.

You should also get another e-mail address as Hotmail has a lot of junk and spam.

Allan :)

Hi Allan, followed your advice and installed Thunderbird which is probably what I should have done in the first place. Thank you very much. By the way, my problem with hotmail started with them emptying my inbox, and not being able to replace the removed files, furthermore all incoming mail was diverted to trash (this I only found out about by logging on directly to hotmail) and then Evolution stopped sending mail and I had to go through Hotmail to send - and all this piggy-backing!!! Not much fun.
Thanks again
Willie
