Can't send or receive mail using Comcast.net

Asked by Alan Goldstone

I've gone through all the FAQ for similar problems...no help.
I,m using Comcast.net as my ISP and Firefox as the browser.
On Windows the server is MSN and the server type is POP. I've tried both and no success.
I need some help.
Thanks,
Alan

You need to configure Evolution Mail with the Comcast settings.
Evolution Mail is at Applications/Internet/Evolution Mail.

Comcast has help pages for various mailers, however they do not include yet Evolution Mail,
http://www.comcast.net/help/faq/index.jsp?cat=Email

However, you can use the instructions at
http://www.comcast.net/help/faq/index.jsp?faq=EmailLinspire_Mail_client18019
as a guide to get Evolution Mail working.

Good luck!

Thank you Simos.

Your suggested solution worked just fine. Perhaps some of the folks who have this same problem shoud try this approach.
Thanks again.

It's great it worked for you!

One thing you can do is email the Comcast support and request them kindly to add configuration instructions for Evolution Mail. They appear to have done a good job at http://www.comcast.net/help/faq/index.jsp?cat=Email with support instructions for Linspire (Linux based), Mozilla Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird.

Looks like I was mistaken about my last mail. I cannot receive mail with the settings I used.
Contacted Comcast on their Chat line and was told they do not support Evolution. I can't believe there's no one else out there using Comcast that does not have this problem.
If anyone is using Comcast for mail, please let me know what server setting you use.
Thanks,
Alan

The Comcast customer support are not familiar with Evolution Mail so what they are saying is they cannot give step by step instructions for this mailer. They would normally read the information that can be found at their website.

Comcast mail uses the standard mail protocols, so there is no issue whatsoever for Evolution Mail not to work.

You can google for "comcast evolution mail" and you get quite a lot of results.
One of the results is
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=298123

With a bit of trial and error you should be able to get it working. Make sure you do not make any typos, and if there are any error messages, you need to write them down carefully.

Good luck!

Hi Simos,
Thanks for your continued support. I'm now receiving and sending mail like a normal human being.
The reason the previous effort did not work was that I entered my password for UBUBTU intsead of the one for Comcast.
Thanks again,
Alan
