I have email attachments to download but cannot do so because they are read only

Asked by Trevor Payne

I am using Ubuntu for the first time and have received emails with attachments but cannot save them to a folder because they are "read only". This is a bit like building a road and then putting gates and stop signs everywhere for the "safety" of the user!!!!

What folders are you trying to save the message to?

Hi Dmitry,

Thanks for your help offer....I get your drift. I was trying to save to
a hard drive partitioned with NTFS from my former Win XP installation.
It tells me I do not have permission to move files from Ubuntu to these
drives. Any quick fix, please? I think I have tried the obvious (click
disk\properties\open with).

Thanks, Trevor

You can install and use the ntfs-config package:
ntfs-config - Enable/disable write support for any NTFS devices
to install it from open a terminal session and type:
sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install ntfs-config

after that look for it menu or type from termianl command line
gksudo ntfs-config
specify a mount point (or reuse previous) for the ntfs partition and check the write access.
