Do a BACKUP on external disk of folder ".evolution".
And better, do a backup of user folder ($HOME).

Install Ubuntu 10.04.

And then overwrite folder ".evolution".

thanks delance for your reply.
re your answer - does that mean that when I install the new system I then put in the old Evolution folder in place of the one in the new system?

I wish I'd read this before I did a clean install of 10.04 to replace 8.04. I backed up evolution settings to external drive and now I want to restore them in 10.04 but "restore settings" on the evolution menu does not recognise the "tar.gz" folder. Any suggestions?

Simply overwrite current ".evolution" folder with older one.
