evolution hotmail

I use a smtp email and have setup evolution as per instructions - I am using ubuntu 9.10 which came with evolution as part of the productivity package. there is only one tab in the sending setup and it allows for choosing smtp or send I chose smtp and in the server box I put smtp.comcast.net

please advise

Make sure you have selected the proper port and authentication mode/encryption type for the comcast server. To change the port number, add :NUM after the server name. If that doesn't clear your problem, try reading the description of the error on the bottom of the evolution window.

Try changing the smtp server to smtp.comcast.net:465, make sure that for the secure connection method SSL encryption is selected & that the box next to `Server Requires Authentication` is checked.

the server does not require authentication and ssl encryption does the 465 denote a port?

ok - the port and authentication was the issue thanks - put in :XXX and the authentication type and all is good now
