VLC isnt working

I downloaded and it said it installed libvlc2 but i added it by going into main menu and adding libvlc2 but it says no such directory exists when i try to access it through applixations

sudo apt-get --purge remove vlc; sudo apt-get --purge autoremove; sudo apt-get clean; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get clean; sudo apt-get install vlc; sudo apt-get clean
